It all started in 2011, with a 30 day solo cross-country road trip, as great stories do! Glass artist, Kathy Seff, planned to take her Polaroid 600 instant camera along for the ride. When getting the film in time for her departure proved unfruitful, she rethought her vision. Thinking in glass, she created kiln fused glass blanks with the interiors measuring 3.1” x 3.1”, the specs of P600 film. She gathered some glass paints/enamels from the family studio, Colorful Visions, and decided to paint the American scenes that inspired her along the way on the art glass polaroids she fired up in the kiln!!
Posting the first creation to facebook, her friends and audience began to bid... gas money she thought! The auctions continued from the East Coast of Rehoboth Beach, to south Texas Galveston Island, out to the midwest of Denver and Morrison, Colorado and back again to Nashville, Indiana, Virginia... all the while using local water from rivers, steams, oceans and bays as the water for the paintings.
A few bodies of water used in the small works:
Colorado River water: Downtown Denver
Mississippi River: Memphis Rendezvous Alley
James River: Carytown USA
Cumberland River: Nashville Skyline & Downtown Broadway
Atlantic Ocean: TopSail & Rehoboth Beach
Galveston Bay: LaKing’s & Galveston Beach Ranch

Returning to Long Island...
Returning to Long Island, she began a LI Series (with other country travels) from Montauk, to Downtown Brooklyn. From Dune Road to Sunnyside Queens. Painting with water from the Great South Bay, local ponds, Long Island Sound and Peconic Bay for the hometown scenes.

Roadtrip thru Ireland... the #artglasspolaroid continues
A 10 day roadtrip thru Ireland was planned and polaroids were created. In doing research, the artist noticed the grey stones and green pastures were a recurring theme. With those colors in mind she created art glass polaroids in the P600 film size again but using grey centers for the painting and shades of as many greens as she could for the exterior portion of a polaroid.
travels and overnights...
While traveling through other countries and her home country of the USA, Kathy has been creating more art glass polaroids through the years. Please visit Colorful Visions Art Glass Studio in Bayport, NY for the most recently created and available art glass polaroids for purchase.
